How it works How to order How Gifts Help FAQ About CARE Media Centre

Frequently Asked Questions

How is my gift delivered?

Gifts are typically delivered as part of broader programs and projects. As such, most gifts are delivered as part of integrated programs which assist many members of a particular community, rather than as ad hoc gifts.

When is my gift delivered?

Gifts are delivered as quickly as possible in line with the needs of specific programs around the world. It may take several months for a specific project to be planned and implemented but you can be sure your gift will be delivered in a timely and efficient manner.

Can I ask for a gift to be delivered to a particular place?

Unfortunately, this is not possible. Specific CAREgifts have been requested by specific communities in the developing world to meet their most pressing needs. Working this way means that the gifts go to the communities where they will make the greatest difference.

Why are CARE's prices higher or lower than others I have seen?

CARE prides itself on being one of the most efficient organisations of its type in the world. Our overheads are extremely low. Price variations occur most often because the cost of supplying an item to one destination is higher or lower than supplying the same item to a different location. CARE sources items in local communities where possible, so local prices and transport costs vary.

What is included in the gift price?

Gift prices include the cost of the gift itself, plus all transport, administration and support costs. Gifts often include training and ongoing support. For example, an animal gift may include veterinary support, or a farming gift may include training in land care and optimum farming techniques.

When will I receive my gift cards?

We endeavour to ensure you receive your gift cards within one week, but please allow eight working days for delivery especially around peak times like Christmas. We cannot guarentee timely delivery of gift cards for orders placed on or after 16 December 2009. Full service will resume in January 2010. Electronic cards are immediate and are available throughout December.

Can the gift cards go directly to the person I am buying for?

We prefer to send the card directly to you, so you can write your own personal message and so the recipient knows who the CAREgifts are from. If you opt for the e-card, this can be sent directly to the person whom you are purchasing the gift for, or to yourself, whichever you prefer.

Do I get a receipt?

Yes. You will receive a tax deductible receipt for all purchases or donations of more than two dollars.

Can I simply make a donation?

Yes. The ordering process includes an option to make an additional donation of any amount you choose over and above the gift items you have purchased. There is also the option to give a general gift only ("The Most Valuable Gift of All"), where the donation will go to where the need is greatest. This allows you to give a donation without having to order other gift items. This is simply a donation to CARE Australia. You will receive a tax deductible receipt.

Can I send my gift cards electronically?

Yes. This not only allows you to create a personalised e-card to send to your family, friends and loved ones, it also saves money and paper so that your gift goes further to help the people who need it most.

Can I get extra copies of the CAREgifts Catalogue?

Yes. You can download a PDF version of the catalogue from the home page and print it from there.

Can I get photos or reports on when and where my CAREgift is delivered?

It is impossible to provide photos and reports on where individual gifts are delivered. The volume of gifts is huge and the cost is prohibitive. By not providing this service we keep our costs much lower and ensure more resources reach those most in need. We do, however, provide general reports on the how CAREgifts are being delivered through our website, newsletters and other communications.

How much of my CAREgift purchase is spent on marketing and overheads?

We ensure that we maximise the donations that reach overseas projects, with 88 per cent of donations in 2008 directly spent on CARE's programs to help children, families and communities in need. The remaining 12 per cent was used for operational running costs including financial management, fundraising and community education. The money we spend creating and operating the CAREgifts Catalogue is multiplied many times over in the funds returned and we are constantly working to increase our efficiency to deliver the maximum amount to the people we serve.
